Serious crime in Pottstown down 30% over past decade, says volunteer analyst

A volunteer analysis by technology strategist Cliff Jurkiewicz found that serious crime has dropped more than 30% and overall crime nearly 24% over the past decade. The report, prepared at the request of Mayor Stephanie Henrick and presented to borough council, shows burglaries down 56%, larceny down 72%, and domestic disturbances at their lowest since 1999. However, non-crime "calls for service" have risen 21% per officer and a statewide recruiting crisis has led to the borough having fewer officers per capita than the national average. The report recommended studying alternative call-response channels to free up officers for proactive policing, working toward full staffing, and continuing economic development and crisis-intervention programs. See the report here.
