Revised cost for New Garden Hills estimated at over $30 million

In 2021, a proposed plan with an estimated price tag of $18 million was introduced for the redevelopment of Saint Anthony’s in the Hills, a 137-acre former parish day camp located in New Garden Township. The ongoing development includes a name change and a trail network opening this fall. However, a recent presentation to the New Garden Township Board of Supervisors revealed that the actual cost to complete several phases of New Garden Hills has now ballooned to an estimated $30.2 million. Despite this, Phase I, a nature trail costing $56,000, will open this fall, and Phase II, playground rehabilitation, is underway. Additional phases in the master plan include a community space, a beer garden, a dog park, and more, leading to a total refurbishment of the 2,000-seat Greek amphitheater. Township Manager Christopher Himes discussed funding options, with a net cash position of $35.3 million available, mainly tied up in the general fund and capital reserves. As the township plans its FY 2024 budget, they are considering the way forward for New Garden Hills. Learn more about the Saint Anthony’s project here.
